Mary Gilbert became interested in design at the
age of 4, when her parents changed her bedroom
wallpaper without her permission.
She has since
decorated four apartments and seven houses for herself.
After consulting on countless other venues for family
and friends, turning professional became—happily—inevitable.
She worked for 7 years at Closson’s, the Midwest’s
premier furniture store, first as Design Studio Manager
and then as Bridal Consultant. Closson’s was where
she learned to pronounce “Brunschwig & Fils” and
“trompe l’oeil.” Therefore, you don’t have to.
Mary attended DePauw University for 2 years,
then transferred to Ohio University to study art
history, where she earned a BFA. She is passionate
about architecture—specifically Frank Lloyd
Wright—and is an incorrigible Francophile.
